• ETAHN M. COHEN concentrates his practice in corporate and securities representation of entrepreneurs, closely-held and middle-market businesses and their investors. His practice reflects a wide range of clients, including start up businesses and established entities in all types of corporate and business representation – formation, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, structuring, financing, commercial transactions and corporate work, and matters involving partnerships and limited liability companies. Etahn also has substantial experience in the purchase and sale of distressed assets, the counseling of troubled companies and in representing receivers and other parties in complex liquidations, out-of-court workouts and reorganization proceedings. He provides general corporate counseling to companies in a wide variety of industries, including computer services, software development, publishing, securities industry and manufacturing.

  In conjunction with his work for these clients, Etahn handles information technology, computer software, trademark, copyright and privacy compliance counseling. In addition, Etahn handles information technology and telecommunication agreement issues, and advises on complex business-to-business transactions involving licensing.

  Etahn is the Chairman of the Board of the Eli and Bessie Cohen Foundation and Eli and Bessie Cohen Foundation of Massachusetts, Inc. and he has been a chairman of the Chicago Bar Association’s Commercial Transactions Committee and its Cyberlaw and Privacy Committee.

  Etahn is a photographer, film and theater buff and gourmet cook.

  Etahn received his J.D., cum laude, Order of the Coif, from the University of Chicago in 1984. Prior to that he received a Ph.D, in Political Science from Harvard University in 1980 and a B.A. in Political Science from Yale University in 1975.
