- MARK MELICKIAN
comes to Sugar Felsenthal Grais & Hammer LLP with 16 years
of large firm and in-house experience, most recently at Navistar
Financial Corporation, where he handled a wide variety of complex
corporate, transactional, bankruptcy, and commercial litigation
matters for the financial affiliate of commercial vehicle manufacturer
Navistar, Inc.
Mark's in-house experience augments
his considerable depth in sophisticated commercial bankruptcy
and insolvency matters. He has represented financial institutions,
indenture trustees, trade creditors, asset purchasers, investors,
commercial real estate concerns, corporate officers, and other
parties in interest in dozens of chapter 11 cases throughout
the country, and advised creditors committees, chapter 11 trustees,
and liquidating trustees in cases filed in New York, California,
Delaware, and Illinois that resulted in over $300 million in
distributions to creditors. Mark is well versed in the management
and disposition of commercial vehicles and equipment and commercial
real estate properties and other assets in distressed debt and
bankruptcy situations.
Mark has written extensively on bankruptcy
and insolvency law and other topics, having contributed materials
on these subjects to Wiley Bankruptcy Law Update, Ginsberg
& Martin on Bankruptcy, Norton Bankruptcy Law Adviser,
the Cornell University Legal Ethics Library and numerous professional
seminars. For several years, he wrote a monthly legal affairs
column for Student Lawyer, an America Bar Association
publication, for which he received the Peter Lisagor Award for
Exemplary Journalism from the Chicago chapter of the Society
of Professional Journalists.
When Mark is not focused on bankruptcy and insolvency matters,
he commits time to public interest law and not-for-profit entities.
He led the Midwestern pro bono practice for an AmLaw 100 law
firm while serving as co-chair of the firm's Public Interest
Committee, and currently serves on the board of directors of
Chicago's Public Interest Law Initiative and of San Francisco's
Legal Community Against Violence, a national public policy organization
dedicated to the reduction of gun-related violence in our communities.
Mark earned his J.D. at Northwestern University School of Law.
